We had AT&T I paid for the router and modem. I have my cox router now so don't need my at&t any more.

Just to ease you mind I just called AT&T and because I paid for it in the first three installments through uverse I can do as I please with it, It belongs to me.. I bought it. I hope that helps answer your questions.
