The listing, ~ Challenger STS 7 Orbit 81 patch ~ has ended.
This auction is for one Challenger STS 7 Orbit 81 patch.
According to information found online, this replica patch commemorates the bug experiment aboard NASA's seventh Space Shuttle mission, and the second mission for the Space Shuttle Challenger.
The bug experiment, carried in a "Getaway Special" canister in Challenger's bay, was prepared in 1981 by students of Woodrow Wilson High School and Camden High School of Camden -- both located in New Jersey.
The purpose of the experiment was to see how ants react to weightlessness in space. Look closely and you'll see ants on the patch!
I thought they were stars until I looked up information about this item *LOL*
This shuttle mission also is noted for carrying Sally Ride, America's first female astronaut.
