The listing, 1963 Topps BOB VEALE & 1966 Topps HARRY WALKER - Vintage Pittsburgh Pirates! has ended.
Veale, who debuted in 1962, was an All Star in 1965 and 1966 for the Pirates as well as winning a World series ring with them in 1971. In 1968, he had a miniscule 2.05 ERA and13 wins, yet lost 14; the hard-luck feat gave him the lowest ERA of any starting pitcher with over 20 starts in a losing season. For his career, Veale went 120-95, an impressive mark. Veale pitched in relief of Dock Ellis on September 1, 1970, in a game believed to be the first time that a team had fielded a starting lineup consisting of entirely black players. it was hardly a publicity stunt, as the Pirates won the World Series that season.
