Welcome to Shearingtreasures Listia auctions Now I am letting go of some of my old United States stamps. I have here an Authentic Antique Civil War Era 20 Cents Stamp Dated August 5th 1864. This one is quite desirable to the stamp collector a Rare stamp to add to your collection. I send all my stamps between cardboard they also will have a tracking # sent though USPS. This is not a postage stamp. It is a voucher stamp used to pay money to the Internal Revenue Service. And I wouldn't call it a Civil War stamp, since it was used well after the war.

An equivalen today would be the tax stamp you see on the top of every pack of cigarettes. Certain items required this stamp before sale.

Also, there are lots of kinds of stamps almost identical, with the Federal agency changed ("Banking", "Documentary", &c).

I've got several dozen of these stamps, although I will admit I don't have a 20¢ one. Mine are all 1¢, 2¢, 5¢ or $1, $5, $10. So it would fill a nice hole.
