All three charms have a clear dome cover over the pic. The background appears to be likened to an old map with the way the lines run thru it. I am not willing to remove the dome cover to check them out further. They were in a lot of used jewelry that was given to me so I know nothing of the history. I have washed them before taking pic so it is definitely the background color.

Also, just for note, if you look closely at the background it has the same lines and darkened areas in all three so one can assume it is not a stain.
