Questions & Comments
If you want to I would suggest taking the Model and Googling the info or getting info off linksys website to post on here to answer quite a few questions. :) As a Technician that knows routers it is better to setup the router through the IP than to use the software. This way you can set everything up manually as well as know more about using your router. Software just doesn't do that for you.
well you're not the only one, i too work with routers on a daily basis and i agree that it is way easier to set up through IP. However, not everyone knows how to get around in the firmware of a router so that may not be the case.
Well here is some helpful information since some people aren't much on searching :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linksys_WRT54G_series#WRT54GS http://www.linksysbycisco.com/ANZ/en/support/WRT54GS Hope this helps answer anymore questions some people may have :)
Well the best case for that would be an Instructional or PDF of the Book/Setup instructions on how to use the IP. Another way is if the website has instructions on how to use the router. I enjoy using the IP because it's giving the person a better understanding on how to use it :) I enjoy also making instructions for setups since I am an IT Specialist (Computer as well as Internet).
If this is the same as the one I had previously it allows for wired as well as wireless connections, yes? Was also wondering if you had any of those cards that go into an older dsktop hat may not have wireless capability installed? (merely a curiosity as I already have a card for my desktop and my laptop has wireless built in).
Yes, it does allow for wired AND wireless connections. Multiple actually. To list what i had running on this at one time was 2 laptops, ipad, ipod touch, xbox 360, Wii, PS3, and 2 desktops. I ran all of this on a 50mbps connection (this router only allows for up to 30mbps on wireless but allowed the full 50 wired). I do have a USB wireless adapter that i used with this but i am still using it. Worked great.
not at all. The software disk is only a help. The router can be accessed by entering the IP address of the modem (usually 192.168.1.1) to get to the router settings. The easiest way is to hook it up and look up your network settings to find exactly what the IP is and go from there. Also, the Cisco/Linksys website usually has the software for download.
