Description
The listing, SMALL ZIPPO THIN TYPE LIGHTER (in original box) FROM EARLY 1900's has ended.
This lighter is Gold in color and came in a Gold box of a half doz. Each lighter was then boxed individually in a Gold box. There was a hand written note slipped inside the box that I only recently found and I've had these lighters for over 20 years. Only one is up for auction at this time. It of course has never been used. God bless.
Questions & Comments
Fanned and watching. These are likely items that were going to be engraved. A lot of novelty, antique & jewelry stores, such as my dad's, and a few others I knew, had these on hand for personalized gifts. They would be given at Elk Banquets, Special recognition parties, etc., and engraved prior to the event. There were watch shops, etc., and special occasion gift stores that carried them as well. Something like "things to be remembered" shops. Anyway, very nice and these were always great quality. We all know they don't make things like they used to so if all they need is a flint, you can get a small pack of those for a couple dollars pretty much anywhere these days. Thanks for sharing. Would love to know what the note said. :) L
Thank you so much for your very interesting and positive comments. I am glad to find out all that I can about any item that I have. I forgot to check the flint today because of another small emergency but I will try to remember tomorrow. When I do I will se if I can find the note. LOL
I was mistaken but it is too late to change the heading now. They are lovely little lighters and very old to never have been used. The box was a gift to someone a long time ago.
I don't see why they wouldn't. They have been stored very well. The small box was in a larger box of 6 & then stored as usual when you are packing up an antique/ junk store. I've got a building full of nothing but boxes filled with small things such as this that I brought with me when I retired 12 years ago. I go through one every ounce in a while so my children won't have to. They will just put it all in the garbage anyway. But yes, they should definitely work.
My father used a lighter like this back when I was a kid...I'll never forget the sound of him flipping it open and striking the roller to light it...lol....memories...both parents smoked 2 packs a day, us kids were already doomed before we even put a butt in our mouths, lol....
Oh yes, I remember. I can remember going to the store for my parents and buying their cigarettes for .18 a pack. I would give the store keeper four nickels and get a pack of Camel's or Lucky Strike's with two penney's under the cellophane. They were my reward for going.
does the wheel still work the striker wheel if it was stored with the flint in it it may not work anymore as the flint can carode in it and bind up the striker wheel ,,thanks ,,watching
I don't like to strike it much but I will check it out. I sold another one of these about a year ago and never got any bad info. back from the buyer. Thanks for your interest.
