Questions & Comments
can you get a close up of the date? i haven't seen that many coins missing a number in the date completely. Mostly just really light strikes. This one looks to be just gone lol. maybe a filled die? usually coins with that sort of problem have other problems too. very weird.
yeah a piece of the die broke off and either filled in the part of the 7 and or some of the copper formed inside the 7. probably a combination of the two
rhod not trying to be mean but you would see marks were someone wouldhave doen that there has been a few of these coins reported and they are worth a good bit Brooklins youa re right it is were the die broke you could say but what happened is that part of the die prob collapsed on its self and filled in it self so when it was pressed nothing showed up that is what happened in other coins that this happened to and thing is msot coins like this the used to throw away and re melt and stuff to see one survive is awesome id love to have this
no you wouldn't see marks if someone did it correctly. i don't know what the debate is for.. i already to you what happened. The number in the die was filled by either excess metal/dirt/dust. so when the die came down on the coin the die left it blank because it was filled in already. it is die damage. Not a once in a billion error, but surely not common.
