The listing, Turquoise Moon: An Uncertain Journey (Paperback, 2008) by Marion Foerster has ended.
In 1775-76, Juan Bautista de Anza led some 300 settlers with their horses, pack mules and cattle from Sonora, New Spain to San Francisco, California. The journey, which passed through little explored Indian Territory, was one of cold, wind swept deserts, wild rivers, snowstorms, hunger and thirst. One of the settlers is Juliana, a young O'odham Indian descendant, who wears a turquoise necklace given to her by her grandmother for protection. But it is not the elements that present juliana with the most difficult challenge. Early on she is inexplicably drawn to Nicolás, a criollo soldier, bent on killing as many of the "heathen" or Indians as possible. Nicolás, on the other hand, finds Juliana's pride fascinating and appealing. Through the hardships of the journey, these unlikely companions reluctantly develop a friendship that tests their beliefs and asks them to make difficult choices.
