The listing, DISCOVERY CHANNEL: WHEN WE LEFT EARTH: THE NASA MISSION: THE SHUTTLE has ended.
Great educational DVD in like new condition. Grades 6-12.
In celebration of NASA's 15th anniversary, Discovery Channel presents the space agency's dramatic story of their awe-inspiring missions. This is one of the stories in the series. I do not have any of the others.
For it's first 20 years, NASA launches capsules carrying a maximum of 3 people. New requirements for a bigger cargo bay prompt a breakthrough in spacecraft design. The development of the reusable shuttle leads to a revolutionary approach to space travel,, but somebody has to test fly it in space for the first time. The mission is led by John Young, the test pilot who sat alongside Gus Grissom on the first Gemini flight. The pioneers of NASA's manned programs are leading the way into the modern era. Yet, space travel remains as dangerous as ever, and tragedy again strikes NASA when the Challenger explodes. Run time: 60 minutes
