When my Mom had Alzheimer's we were always looking for things she could do to continue to be creative and enjoy her time with us. We bought her Birds& Blooms magazines because she loved birds and flowers. One day, she said she wanted to look through her old magazines while I was doing dishes. So I brought her a stack and went to do the dishes. The moment I returned to the den where she was sitting looking through her magazines, I realized she had grabbed my scissors and was busy cutting them to shreds! The next moment, I realized she was smiling! It was the first time in a few days at that point in her illness, so I asked her what she was up to. She said, "I found the loveliest mailboxes in these magazines and I'm a cuttin' 'em out to share. They are too pretty to be stuck in some old magazines on my shelves.!" Then she grinned real big and followed it with...."...besides, I'm havin' a good old time." And folks, she was! These are some of what she cut out and I hope you agree...they are too pretty to just sit in some old magazines on a shelf!
