It takes cartridges, they are not just purple. That adds to what you can do on it. I do not have cartridges but you can fin dthem cheap on eBay.

On the 6th picture there is lines running up and down the screen. Is that just because how sometimes when you take pictures of a screen, there's lines in it, or is the screen on that toy actually make lines like that in it sometimes? Thanks

Hey I was just reading over the comments, do you have to have these cartridges you are speaking of to play on this or can you play on it without them??? I tried to go on the website but my phone internet is running to slow to load the page. I just also need to know if it's suitable for a 3-4 year old, what age did your child use it for if you don't know whether or not it's good for a 3-4 year old.

Manufacturers state 4-8 years old. It is good for a 3-4 year old. You can play and do a lot of things without the cartridges.
