this is the same type of thing they use at the super markets to scan the items. it just reads the lines and translates them into numbers

So do you make your own bar-codes with the software, and then print them out? And then you can them with the scanner?

I think that it is for reading and editing barcodes and also for keeping track of receipts ( you could scan receipts and then throw them away and it will store your receipts on your computer)

It is stated on the specs of the item that it comes with a 12ft RS232 Serial E/P Cable and a power supply; do you have those items as well or only what it is on the picture?
