Description

The listing, Off Denticle and On Denticle 1949 Canadian One Cent Coins-On Denticle is Rare has ended.

The last time I saw a pair of these on Listia was around a year ago and someone stole them for between 26,000 and 27,000 credits.

1947, 1948 and 1949 were banner years for Canadian cent varieties. There are three different varieties for 1947, two of which have a small maple leaf next to the date to designate that they were actually minted in 1948 before the dies reflecting that India was no longer a part of the British empire were ready.1948 also has three varieties, small denticle, large denticle on denticle and large denticle off denticle. The scarcest of these is the small denticle.

In 1949 Canada decided to make all one cent coins off denticle but they accidentally used a 1948 obverse die for some coins and this die was on denticle. This is a rare coin and the premiums that it will fetch attest to that.

Of the eight varieties for 1947, 1948 and 1949 the 1949 on denticle is by far the rarest. If you need one you are at the right place because I am listing these two coins with NO MINIMUM BID and FREE SHIPPING.

No minimum bid and FREE USA shipping.
I can only ship to the US.
All Listia rules, including verified address apply.

I have an almost complete set of Canadian small cents, 1920-2012, (only missing 3) that I am thinking about listing. If you are interested contact me by Listia mail.

Thanks for the comment. The 1949 on denticle Canadian cent is not only rare coin, it possesses some value as well. Even an extremely worn example sells for well over $10.00 and better coins go for much more. If you need help determining if any of your Canadian cents have any value you can message me via Listia mail.

I certainly expected more action on this one. It looks like someone might be headed for a real bargain on it. Although there are currently no bids I will not take it down or include a minimum bid. If someone steals it, so be it with my congratulations, even if I lose my shirt on the transaction.

It looks like I may have picked the wrong time to list this one. Of all my listings that were scheduled to end this Saturday and Sunday this is the most expensive and it is getting the least attention. If it goes way low, my congratulations to the winner. You were in the right place at the right time and my loss will be your gain.
