Questions & Comments
Can I make a suggestion? You have very nice jewelry, and I think it would do well, but most sellers offer free shipping on little items. If you can't offer free shipping, you really need to be able to combine. You can send quite a few pieces of jewelry in one sturdy manilla envelope for $1.22 (three stamps). I think it would get more bids if you offered either free shipping or lowered the cost. Just a suggestion ....
Thank you for your suggestion, I am willing to combine, in fact I'm not going to 'wrap' it up, till the auctions over for now on. I don't usually do jewelry, so I'm not used to the shipping. I know I have lost my #@$ shipping electronics and clothes! I will take your suggestion, and hope to see these move! Another reason I thought my price was fair is because I have paid from 2.50 to 4.00 on small neclaces and watches. And I know none of it cost 4 to ship!! Ok, let me edit! Thanks again. I always welcome 'constructive criticism'/suggestions
I just think you'll find that, with so much jewelry on Listia offered with free shipping, you'll get so few credits for your items that it's not worth listing them, and it's very discouraging. I am cutting back, but I was spending at least $50 a week on shipping, so I feel your pain. But little things can ship with three stamps, you just need to put them in a sturdy envelope.
I buy the manilla envelopes in a box of 100 and cut them in half to ship my beads and jewelry, but I also tape up all the little edges and flaps, otherwise they can get caught in the postal machines and mangled.
But, I get a lot of credits for my stuff. So far I've won a Tivo, lots of very nice jewelry, and last night I won the Dell netbook laptop, which retails with all the bells and whistles this one has, for $1,000. So, that kinda pays me back for the shipping!
I am a mother of two, with a husband out of work. To put "ONLY THREE STAMPS" on my lighter items, adds up. That's so nice if you can afford to ship so much for free, but the things that I do ship for free is actually a strain for me at the present time. Its amazing how much you have gotten just auctioning beads, thats nice for you. But when I actually buy things to give away, and I know there are not going to be alot of credits involved, I have to at least get some help with the shipping, maybe you understand that. Yes, I also use the manilla envelopes, and the padded ones. They do a good job.
I do understand. I don't usually buy stuff for Listia, but I'm a lot older than you and have a LOT more junk sitting around. Listia is hard to justify. I think most people do it because it is fun, but for me it's the "game" of earning enough credits to win things I'd never buy, by giving away things I couldn't sell for very much. So far I've spent a few hundred dollars on shipping, and I am cutting back because of that, but I also won a $1,000 computer last weekend (among other things), so I am coming out ahead, or at least breaking even. So, Listia CAN be "economic" but only if you can get a decent number of credits for the items you are listing, so you can trade them in for other items of value (to you).
Sorry if it sounded like I was criticizing, I just like to help other people have good results in exchange for the time you are putting into it, as well as the nice things you are giving away.
I am really curious to know what the netbook went for, if you don't mind me asking. You must do real well, I knoe everytime I look at a big item to bid on, I notice you are in the running! lol And to tell ya the truth, I actually didnt bid on something recently-dont remember what, because you were and I figured it would be a waste of my time going up against ya!!lol. I start 'sweating' if /when my credits go below 15k because I just know 'something' is gonna pop up that i am gonna want. Like the rewards camera. Please tell me you dont need a new camera!!!lol I know you are just trying to help, I think I am just really discouraged at how these jewelry listings are (not) going, because they really are pretty pieces, and I know when I see a jewelry item that I want, I dont worry about paying shipping, or credits. If I want it, I'm gonna get it!! Guess I'm just not as 'frugal' as many other members are! So, please don't take me the wrong way, I'm just bitter for the moment!!hahah, but it's not against you!!!!!--or anybody for that matter!
I got the netbook for 20215 credits. I think the seller was disappointed, but he turned around and won the Ipad for less than 39000 credits, and I know he was really pleased. I certainly expected that to go for 50,000 or more.
Yes, I do well on Listia but I spend MANY hours taking photos, listing, and responding to comments and e-mails. Free shipping is the key though. I'm fortunate that I can afford it, but I'm WAY ahead of my shipping expenses in my wins. I've also won several thousand dollars worth of nice jewelry with all of those credits.
Problem is that I'm way over-invested in Listia time-wise, and am cutting back, ending all auctions Fri-Mon nights and shipping on Mondays and Tuesday only (which also takes me hours). My husband also is getting laid off (but workiing until October at his current job). We have one daughter who just got accepted to a very expensive college she'd really like to go to, and although we've saved all our lives for this, it's ominous to think about paying $50K a year when we don't know if my husband will EVER get another job. I was a corporate writer/editor until my kids were born, and my professional options are very limited in Iowa.
Yes, timewise, I am way over-invested in listia. My husband complains--alot! But it's not like I don't get other things done, I just spend ALL my free time doing this! I, too am trying to cut back, but I'm also trying to save up credits. Would like that tv, but will go for the camera if need be (need that too), So on that note, I've got to go take some pics! lol I would have loved to get that net book! But I thought it was going to go for more, I stopped watching it! That is what I really NEED.!
