The new T-BERD 307 is a handheld test instrument designed to effectively test DS3 and the host of new technologies DS3 supports to include wireless communications, video conferencing, distributed data processing, and workstation-based graphics.

The instrument is specifically designed for field technicians tasked with turning up and maintaining DS3/DS1 services and can be used in the central office, in the field, at the customer premise, or unmanned remote locations. The T-BERD 307 can also be used in tandem with the TTC T-BERD 310 to provide an integrated testing solution for an entire network.

With the T-BERD 307, field technicians can accomplish the following: -0-

-- Identify timing problems by accessing the DS1 timing
reference from any DS3 or DS1 access point in either
asynchronous or synchronous networks.
-- Troubleshoot DS3 and DS1 channels by simulating a
mulitplexer or a 3:1 cross-connect for DS3 and DS1 circuit
qualification. Test patterns, tones or loop codes can be
inserted on one or all DS1 channels within a DS3 for
additional testing flexibility. DS1 channels can be
dropped from the received DS3 signal to test and monitor.


-- Test from a variety of access points by testing tributaries
at a DS3 access point or can be used as a stand-alone DS1
test instrument.
-- Test far-end equipment by automatically looping up the far
end and verifying if data is being properly received on the
specified DS1 channels by transmitting C-bit FEAC or DS1
loop codes.
-- Troubleshoot equipment problems by emulating the customer
premises channel service unit (CSU) and network interface
unit (NIU) from anywhere on the span.-0-
