You need to have DSL or Cable internet service to use this. It is for people who have broadband internet service. If you don't have it this won't do anything for you.

i have a wireless router in my house can i use this to hook up my laptop in my garage the signal just reaches but my laptop has no wireless

This must be hooked up to a router in order for it to work. It is a Wireless access point. used to send a signal from a NON-wireless router to wireless devices.

This item is an ACCESS POINT, not a router, not a modem. You need a modem like the Motorola modem in my other auction it is an Official AT&T Modem/router. :)
