Works with Netgear genie app so you can set ssid and password to anything you want.

Not for the router itself, it can be used with different service providers ( of cable internet only ). I used it with Mediacom because the one they provided was constantly disconnecting from the internet and required them to come out to fix it and I got tired of the bs. Once hooked up and you try to connect to then internet for the first time you just have to enter your account information on the page that loads from your provider to authorize the router to full internet access. And like I mentioned in ad, Netgear genie app will give you the ability to change the SSID and password to anything you want, but to do this you have to connect your device with the app to the router with the password and stuff located on the bottom, you do not need internet access to change the name and password.
