Description

The listing, 1930'S ROLLS-ROYCE HOOD ORNIE has ended.

GREETINGS Everyone, I have here today a Hood ornament from an early 1930's Rolls-Royce Car. Its
5 1/2 inches tall and has a Chrome finish and made of
heavy solid metal. It looks to me like a chauffer holding
a sterling wheel and a very Art Deco Period Design to it
with detailing of a fine uniformed fellow. Signs of wear but no rusting. Great to excellent condition. Thank you for looking everyone.

How do you know this is a Rolls Royce hood ornament?
Sep 11th, 2014 at 5:34:39 AM PDT by
Original
First I have had this for over 30 years and just knew it was something special and
very Art Deco. When I decided to let it go.... then I did the research. I then sent a
picture to the Heritage Auction house(a very large and well known auction house) and while waiting on them, I went to a couple of small auction houses. The overall
majority is that it is an Art Deco Rolls-Royce Hood ornament circa 1930's. Out of 5-6 place that I asked, One said it could possibly be a Bentley. I'm convinced it is not.

Ty, that is interesting. I tried to research it myself and came up fairly blank but they also did custom hood ornaments, or at least I found a few .).).)

I grew up around antiques and a lot of car buffs. Experience means knowing who to go to when you don't know someone. We have a Station in this area that is called the Quick Trip. There are hundreds of convenient stores by that name in this area.
Anyway, the founder and owners pilot store is near here and his is all about Antiques and cars. He's been around a long time too, which helps. He has given some great advice and confirmed this ornament too. It's as simple as knowing what to look for, and when you know someone who was there....all the better.

It looks like the chrome finish it worn and pitted. Its that true?
Sep 11th, 2014 at 8:26:54 PM PDT by
Original
Of course its a little worn, but not pitted, if you were 85 years old (LOL). Actually
the ones I researched were in much worse condition with most being rusty or have
been refinished. Not this one. Before I had it, it sat in a junk yard being exposed to the weather for 50 years.....just saying.

I have a friend who collects them .. well he said a lot of people think they all have the 1 with a woman with like wings on her ..also very Art Deco :) still bidding <><>
Sep 12th, 2014 at 9:38:41 AM PDT by
Original
Well, I'm sure there are. I have never seen the " winged lady ". Only in books.
I would love to have that one, she would be beautiful. I thought I would collect
them to, but they were so few and far between. Most car collectors want the real
thing, and I would think, collectors of hood ornaments want the real thing too. In
professional appraising they require 3 statements of authenticity (so I was told) to make it real.....I talked to 6 sources.......thank you for you interest and looking.
