Kindergarten-Grade 2-- Pip has two grandmas: fuss-budget Grandma Nan and easygoing Grandma Sal, both of whom first appeared in The Grandma Mix-Up (Harper, 1988). If one of them says "yes," the other immediately says "no"; so when Pip and his buddy Ski go for a holiday in the country with both the grandmas, the ceaseless tug-of-war between uptight Nan and laid-back Sal spoils all the fun. The boys explain their feelings, and a compromise that all can live with is reached. The bright cartoon illustrations are sure to appeal to young readers. While the story line is slight and insubstantial, it fulfills its purpose as another of the dependable controlled-vocabulary stories for beginning independent readers.
