Actually, I was under the impression that with an auction, a lot describes what is up for sale. I have been to Live Auctions and they auction off "lots" that have only one item. I have also sold on eBay for years and always described the "lot" that is up for bids.
Now if you are talking semantics here, the word alot does connotate more than one item. Sorry if I offended you somehow!
