These are the type with the leader line attached. This is due to the fact that they are "snelled" (tied in a snelled manner) so the factory must use a line to do so.

Here's a very brief explanation of snelling:

"Picture a fishing hook in your mind. Imagine putting the line through the eye of the hook once, and then passing it through again in the same direction so it creates a loop. After you wrap the loop around the hook several times and tighten it by pulling on both ends of the line, you will have tied a snell knot."
