Description

The listing, Lot of 48 Stampsters From Ecuador has ended.

Nice lot of 48 stamps from Ecuador. All used, and all are off paper. No two stamps are alike!

This would be perfect for a new collector, or, especially for a stamp club!

Most are quite old, but there are some that are fairly recent. I've tried to cull out the stamps that were torn, missing corners, heavy postmarks, etc. Most have been hinged at some point in their little lives.

I really don't like this "one stamp at a time" business, so you'll only see large lots from me. If you like the large lots....keep an eye open.

Also, if you would like to see a group from a specific country, send me a message and I'll see what I can come up with for you.

Always FREE shipping, and NEVER a minimum opening bid. I don't like those either!

NO international shipping!!!!

My "Stampsters" were bigger than gerbils until they escaped and got run over by a Singer Sewing Machine, Co. truck, in the middle of one night back in 1954, as they tried to scurry across the then newly constructed two-lane Victory Highway in honor of our having won WWII.
One giant step for mankind; one short step for the four-legged, furry kind!

[Happy Memorial Day Weekend! It's after 8 o'clock; do you know where your "stampters" are?]

There were only 48 states (Ecuador wasn't one, although they have some particularly interesting stamps, some of which are shown above) and 48 stars in our flag, back then, too.
It would take another five years, before their massacre would be memorialized on the 5th anniversary of their semi-conversion into "stampsters", on January 3rd, 1959, when "Seward's Follly" (aka Alaska) was incorporated into the union as a state, a mere 100 years after it was purchased from Russia, which from its city of Saint Petersburg is only 5409.07 miles from Quito, Ecuador by air mail, today - although it would have been a longer flight before aircraft had such long ranges, due to the necessity for refueling.

Rather interesting BOB over-prints on those telegraph and postal department pieces!
