Debjflem yes you can connect this to your modern with a Cat5 patch cable that he had in the pics. This will allow you to setup a wired and wireless network in your home.

I'm pretty clueless as well...lol...I believe there is two ethernet cords that comes with this router...two different lengths, depending on what you need. I'm sorry, I always have to call my son when I need the geek squad...
