The listing, 1938 Airmail, Connected Pair, Duplex Cancel has ended.
Fantastic old airmail cover, with the red bar on bottom and blue bar on the right signifying this is an airmail envelope. PAR AVION in bottom right corner.
There's a lot on this one!
I've seen many of these similar, but none with TWO connected stamps!
Left reads U.S. Air Mail
20th Anniversary
With emblem Qui Transtulit Sustinet
(He Who Transplanted Still Sustains)
State of Connecticut
National Air Mail Week
May 15 - 21, 1938
Perfectly centered oval, donut WATERBURY CONN. cancel on the connected pair Air Mail stamps 6 cent red eagle and to the left, a duplex cancel (Duplex cancel is a two-part cancel, one part containing the postmark, and the other part with the cancellation)
Looks like the duplex is #1 (inside the oval shaped lined football) with the 1938 dated between the football and round postmarked WATERBURY MAY 19 3 PM CONN.
Backside inverted postmark NEWARK
Backside also stains, see all photos
Great old cover!!!!
