Description

The listing, Live aquarium plant, Anacharis (Elodea), easy to grow has ended.

This is a great plant to have in your freshwater aquarium.

It is easy to grow. It will grow free floating in the aquarium or you can plant one end and it will take root. You can break a piece off and it will start growing as a new stem. I've had a piece as short as 1/4" grow into a several foot long plant that I let grow almost like it was a moss.

You will get THREE pieces of this plant, anywhere from around 4-6" in length. I'm not going to use a tape measure but it will be close to that. You can bunch them together in gravel or a small pot with dirt and it will create a beautiful filler item in your aquarium. Or plant the 3 pieces separately, or leave them free floating. You have several options.

Live plants are good at getting rid of nitrates and help to prevent algae.

This plant will grow in almost all light conditions, but the brighter the light the faster it will grow.

Can you guaranty me it will still be alive when it gets to me?

Yes I will. Look through my auction history. I've sent off several of these and have also sent plants over the last few years through Ebay and have never had dead plants arrive. Freshwater plants are very forgiving. I've never had to reship a plant.

Will it give off oxygen in the water?

Yes. Just like regular plants, it takes in nitrogen and gives off oxygen during the day... or when you have a light on. It doesn't need strong or high powered lights, but does need what I call 'average' lighting, which most standard hoods with built in lights will handle. When the lights are off, the plants consume oxygen. But there's no fear that even a heavily planted tank will ever consume all the oxygen in the water, but the water from your filter that breaks the surface, keeps enough oxygen in the water to make everyone happy :) The main benefit of lives plants in an aquarium is that they consume excess nutrients which helps to keep algae from taking over, and to help lower nitrate levels. Regular water changes will still be needed but you may be able to go a few extra days than usual if you have sufficient live plants in the tank.

Can I put it in a fish bowl without a filter? Or will that hurt my fish? My bowl holds 2 1/2 gallons of water.

That will be fine. I was just providing a little more details on how oxygen enters water in an aquarium. In your case it would be even more beneficial since you're not running a filter. You do change the water periodically don't you? If not, you really should. Many people that say they can never keep a fish alive for long is because they never change the water. Even with a filter, partial water changes must be done due to something called nitrates. Nitrates are part of the cycle that converts fish waste (pee and poop) into something that's not as toxic for the fish. But nitrates will continue to build until they get toxic as well. If you have gravel or any decorations in the bowl, then only change about 1/3 of the water a week.

I wrap them in wet paper towels, sealed in a zip lock bag. I've shipped a bunch of live plants, here and on Ebay. They always arrive in excellent condition.
