This is a Brass template for stenciling or embossing. It reminds me of a door, but is a rectangle.

Instructions from the back of another brass template say (which would be applicable here): Place stencil on paper and secure with low tack tape, so as not to damage paper. Sticking tape to clothing before using on paper will also work to reduce tackiness. Flip paper over and place over a light source. Trace stencil outline with an embossing tool or stylus. Remove stencil and tape carefully.

How to stencil: Use your favorite stencil paint or colored pencils. You can then use your design as is, or emboss it if desired. Keep your stencil clean with a damp rag for water based paint or a dry rag for oil based paint.

Other ideas: Use glitter for sparkling effects. Use a pin to punch evenly spaces holes around stencil outline for a unique effect. Heat treated powders are great for embossing too! Am sure there are how to videos on You-tube.
