The listing, 144 Colorful PRECANCEL From 1890s GIN 5,000 has ended.
Here is a great lot of 144 old precancels.
There are many but I do not come across many MW precancels. The MW could be considered those as a sub-specialty (MW = Montgomery Ward, the prolific mail order business of the day).
The stamps with the larger text could be a box cancel instead of precancels.
Blue in vertical PWP NOV 40, company in Seattle, a huge variety!
There is a old 50 cent postage due from 1890's that is inverted (the text is upside down).
The blue 5 cent Hamilton is a double, it's a precancel and perfin!
Precancels:
The city/state name on the precancel would be the only location where mail with those stamps affixed would be accepted. Tthe concept of precancels was to aid in the processing of large mailings without having to cancel each stamp separately, so the usage was likely part of a mass mailing from a business entity.
