The listing, WWII Arsenal Gold Rep, 1945 Army Exam, GIN 3,500 has ended.
Keeping in theme of the WWII era, I have included a WWII "Arsenal of Democracy Gold Replica cover and also an old war time cover postmarked 1945 and, it's nice to have the mark read US ARMY POSTAL SERVICE, instead of a city and state. I have several of these covers, but not many with the side tape "Opened by U.S. Army Examiner" and usually most of the covers only have ONE stamped and approved "Passed by" on the front side bottom left. So this is a nice one to have.
Regarding Army Examiners opening mail:
During World War II, fear of enemies obtaining secret information through the mail caused censors (Army Examiners) to monitor letters that soldiers sent home, cutting out anything that could possibly give the enemy information. Even the traditional symbols for hugs and kisses Xs and Os were cut from letters because officials worried that the pattern could be a code explaining troop positions or ship movements.
The gold replica stamps are layered with a very thin 22 kt gold layer. Each gold 'stamp' is exact replica of the stamp you see on the cover.
U.S. Gold Replica First Day Covers are produced under an agreement with the United States Postal Service. The gold stamp encased inside these covers are an exact replica of the original United States Postal Service issued stamp on the cover.
