Description
The listing, "Cinquanta 50 Lire" Paper Bill 1943 A has ended.
This Auction is for 1 Paper Bill & as you can see it has some wear & discolorations with fading on the back. I don't know much about foreign money, but this was in a shoe box I got at an Estate Sale. Please feel free to ask any questions & I'll try to answer them. Winner must live in the US & have a Listia verified Address. Thanks for stopping by & checking out the Auction.
Questions & Comments
As you probably noted this is Allied Military Currency. This was printed up prior to the invasion of Italy and during occupation to provide Military Soldiers occupy foriegn countries money to spend that would not impact the local economy. Service Members were paid with these notes so that they could use them on the economy and then the local merchants could redeem them back through the military channels for face value compensation. Since the series was 1943, I am guess this is one of the first notes. Most I have seen are for lower amounts and are square in nature. This is the first 50 Lire note I have seen. The smaller notes usually go for about $3.00 and up based on their condition and where it is being sold. I am interested but I don't think I will have the credits before the end of the auction for it. I will be watching. Best of Luck
Thanks for the Info & I'll be listing 1 or 2 more of these. There was 8 of them in the Shoe Box & sold 4 of them to a guy in town for $35.00 for all 4. They were in a little better condition than this one.
