Lord knows I need something like this after the tornadoes hit Tuscaloosa. Most still do not have power. 39 known dead and 458 missing. I wish I had this before.

A ups is an uninterruptible power supply. They are often used with computers in case of power failure. Basically they are a batter pack with a built in inverter that gives you 120 V AC for a limited time. They are rechargeable and come in a number of sizes depending on how much power you need and how long you need it. They can be found at any office supply store.

To clear things up on the Digital TV issue. I have one just like this and it is not Digital Ready. You would need a Digital Converter Box for this to recieve over the air channels. We use a UPS and a converter box with ours when we are camping. It makes it a little extra weight, but it works for us. Even without the Digital TV this item still has many uses.

Wow katzgr8 thanks so much for asking about me.I had not seen the news until today.I knew my area was supposed to get some really bad weather and possible tornadoes but I had no idea it actually happened.I live in Grand Bay, just a few miles from Mobile.It was cloudy & looked like it would storm.We just got a light drizzle.On the news it was just devasting in alot of areas.My heart goes out to all the people who were in the storms/tornados.

Hi! When you turn the TV on & use just the antenna, does it pick up any of your local stations? I know it wouldn't get cable channels without being hooked up to a converter box, but does it pick up regular analog broadcasts from local TV stations without being connected to cable? I'd be very interested to know how that works. I've been through a major earthquake (7.3) and know that the local TV stations try to stay on the air to tell people what's going on, so that would be a big plus for me if it does get local signals. Please let me know.

In any case, it is a great item for anyone's emergency kit. Thanks for offering this! I will definitely be watching & bidding!

When I tried it, I did not connect it to anything other than the power.
I could not get a picture in even adjusting the antenna.So I can not say for sure.
All I can say about the tv part is it works.
The box says it cable ready.The channel thing said it was vhf/uhf or something like that.I honestly do not know since tv stations have changed so much.I am not trying to be evasive.I really do not know.
But even if the tv part did not pick up chanels, it would still be great in emergency situations.
It has the radio, alert siren and flashlight and more.
That siren alone would be a great thing to have if you were in an earthquake.
It could save your life if you were in a collapsed structure and could not call out.
That siren would definetly get someone's attention.
