The listing, Cool! 1992 Topps "Gold" FRANK THOMAS (White Sox HOF) - Hard to find! has ended.
THE CARD:
This is a 1992 Topps Gold FRANK THOMAS card.
1992 was the first year that Topps issued a gold parallel, and the cards were seeded 1 card per 36 pack box; with those odds, you'd need at least 792 boxes to put together a set of these cards, without duplicates. Most collector's ended up just accepting the "Gold Winner" cards which could be redeemed through Topps and were much more common.
THE PLAYER:
"The Big Hurt" was a first round pick of the Chicago White Sox in 1989 and had made the big club by August of 1990. It took him little time to make an impact, winning back-to-back MVP awards in 1993 and 1994. He'd go on to blast 521 home runs in his career, one of just 25 players to hit 500 home runs, and one of only 9 to do so while maintaining a career batting average over .300.
Thomas has been elected for induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown in 2014.
