The bonus disk has the theme, and map packs on it. The map packs specifically state that installing them requires you to pop out the bonus disc and insert the game disc when they're finished. So you play off the first disc and the only time you need to put the bonus disc in is to do the initial install of the map packs (and themes I guess), or if you want to watch the videos.
