Description

The listing, *WWII*HAWAII* Overprint US $1 Silver Certificate! Series 1935Aa Fr # 2300 *WWII*Emergency Currency* has ended.

World War II Emergency Currency!
This is a ***BROWN SEAL*** Series 1935-Aa Emergency Issue Silver Certificate distinguished by it's Brown Seal and the HAWAII overprint on the front and across the back.

Fr # 2300
KL # 1609a
Signatures: Julian-Morgenthau
Serial # C 00143770 C

These notes are very desirable in any condition. They are slowly disappearing and this is a great opportunity to grab one. I've seen quite a few silver certificates on Listia, but this is the first HAWAII Emergency issue silver certificate I've seen and could be the last one you see here.

This note does have a couple of small burns on the upper portion of the center of the note which is easily noticed in the pictures I have provided. No matter, this is still a great , rare note in very good condition aside from the small burns. Could still bring a decent buck on feebay also.

I paid a few bucks for this some time ago. ~please~ bid generously ; }
Thanks for looking.

That goes for anybody who doesn't want or apreciate this note for what it is. I don't want or apreciate your credits, so just don't bid. A lot of folks really would love to have this note in their collection :)

Angelscry2, I will unblock you and let you bid on my great stuff once you actually complete a transaction and have at least 2 feedback ratings :) hahaha. SORRRRY.... :)

dang! silver is up to over $37.00 an ounce again. Anybody interested in seeing more silver bullion? Last couple I listed were flops and didn't even come close to covering my costs but if folks are gonna bid I'll list. Speak up or forever hold your piece. Or should I say don't hold your piece. (of siolver that is)

Just a reminder to anybody who is serious about getting this thing and credits are not a prob..... If bids go up about 3500 more, the get it now will not be available if I'm correct. I think the get it not stops at about 1/2 of the get it now price. Don't know that anybody wants it that bad, but if they do, watch the bids close.

another great listing!! thanks for putting this on and i'll be bidding again!! =) oh and i bought a huge binder of stamps for $2 at a flea market that someone had obviously worked really hard on, and i know nothing about them. so the last couple months i've been trying to learn a little, but if anyone knows about them, i could sure use some help in figuring out some of these stamps!! haha!! they collected quite a few from the late 1800's-1990's? so its real neat, and for $2, i couldn't pass it up! haha! even if i know nothing about them, the time put into it is worth lots more than 2 bucks!! thanks again!!

nice find. I was at a flea market this weekend with my boys and saw a few things but the 3 year old had other more important plans for me..... Like checking out the truck load of old beat up tonka trucks some guy had :)

thanks fo looking.

Your auction s going well I new it would. Hey nothing wrong with looking at those tonka trucks. My boys were always going for them too. Will be going to a big flea market this weekend I love seeing what I might find. I have too say my favorite is a good estate yard sale. Ooh I just love them. :)
Mar 28th, 2011 at 8:53:50 PM PDT by

Absolutely. I love a yard sale.
Down in Florida where my Mother lives theres a huge flea market that puts anything we have up here in CT to shame. Whenever I visit thats an all day event at least one day of my visit.

thats so funny. the good ole box of cars and tonka trucks!! So yours is 3? I have 5 year old identical twin boys, so im right there with ya!! haha! i always look for a good box of knick knacks and try to get the whole thing for a steal so i can give them out one by one as we walk thru, to keep them somewhat content!! haha! there is a flea market here, that when the weather is nice, it will also take us all day to make it thru. But i'm always amazed to see how many people will buy storage containers with nothing but antiques, and sell them there for nothing! oh, it gets so addicting, when you can find such a treasured piece of history, just being given away! I get carried away talking about these things and sometimes yak too much, but i do appreciate all the fellow collectors on here, and am thankful we get the opportunity to bid on items such as these!! Like you said earlier too, all these things will eventually be passed to our children, so its neat to have them involved too!!

Absolutely. Thats what I really love avbout this site. All the great folks like yourself we get to share our thoughts, stories and ideas on our hobby's with. Or just plain old have a BS sesion :) I describe this site to friends and family as a cross between Feebay, Craigs List and Facebook :). I love being able to ask and answer questions on items and hear all the great little stories..

As far as FleaMarkets go.... Well I'm a veteran Dead Head and spent a good portion of my youth following my favorite band across the country. Living iout of my car or van or backpack and it's in my blood to travel and haggle : I would absolutely love to take a truck like the guys from American Pickers have and spend an entire summer going cross country doing a National Tour of FleaMarkets. :) I'm afraid I would need a bigger truck halfway through my journey though :) Now that would be an adventure to keep a journal on or even videograph for a documentary.

I have a 12 year old and a 3 year old. So getting through a flea market is tough with them. As ~you~ know, the 3 year old needs to look at every truck and choo- choo Train but trying to get the 12 year old away from the gazillion knives, swords, and old military equipment can be 10 times harder :)

Thanks for looking and sharing :)

Isn't it rare to have Over printing state name on US bills? I never saw such banknote before.
Mar 29th, 2011 at 3:02:53 AM PDT by

This was done only once in our history. As I said in an earlier comment about these, it was a very dark moment in our history with the threat of being invaded the government issued these to protect our currency in the event of invasion. That is what makes this note so ~important~. The real value in adding this to your collection isn't necessarily the monetary value it may hold but rather, you will be holding a very very interesting genuine piece of WWII history that you can pass on down to your kids and grand kids . A great teaching tool for many topics, WWII History, economics, US Currency History, Hawaii History.... The list is long and any kid would definitely score an "A" On any report or school project they did on this note, especially if they brought it to class. Their teacher will more than likely never had seen one or even quite possibly ever heard of one :)

Check my comments down a little further and I'll leave a better explanation. Thanks for your interest.

FROME WIKIPEDIA:
After the attack on Pearl Harbor, military officials surmised that in the event of an invasion of Hawaii, Japanese forces would have access to a considerable amount of US currency that could be seized from financial institutions or private individuals. Faced with this scenario, on January 10, 1942, Military Governor Delos Carleton Emmons issued an order to recall all regular US paper money in the Islands, save for set caps on how much money both individuals ($200) and businesses ($500; save extra currency for payroll purposes) could possess at any time.
On June 25, 1942, new overprinted notes were first issued. Series 1935A $1 Silver Certificate, Series 1934 $5 and $20 Federal Reserve Notes, and Series 1934A $5, $10, and $20 Federal Reserve Notes from the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco were issued with brown treasury seals and serial numbers. Overprints of the word HAWAII were made; two small overprints to the sides of the obverse of the bill between the border and both the treasury seal and Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco seal, and huge outlined HAWAII lettering dominating the reverse. The hope was that should there have been a Japanese invasion, the US Government could immediately declare any Hawaii-stamped notes worthless, due to their easy identification.[
With this issue, military officials made the use of non-overprinted notes redundant and ordered all Hawaii residents to turn in unstamped notes for Hawaii-stamped notes by July 15. Starting from August 15, 1942, no other paper currency could be used except under special permission.

Just got the best gift ever from a very special Listia member. I won't mention any names , you & I know who you are. You are a very beautiful, wonderful, kind soul and I feel lucky to know you.
That said, I will say what the gift was, A 200x digital microscope to plug in to my computer and take and save pictures of my coins with. Hopefully by tonight I will figure out how to use it and will be listing some more great stuff on here with some very interesting pictures to share with all of you. So even if you don't win this great note, no worries, I have ~plenty~ of cool stuff to share with you and I'm feeling extra generous so there will more than likely be some more fun and free giveaways and games to come your way. Just remember to check back and you definitely want to be sure to read all of the comments on my auctions because occasionally when I;m feeling generous I will hide a game or contest in my comments with great prizes to be won. Good luck and bid bid bid :)

And of course thank you to that very special new friend who gave me such an awesome gift. It really is great! I love it and can't wait to start playing with it.

Hey Tony it's interesting to see this bill. a little history about it.. the year pearl harbor was attact the Hawiian treasury dept was destroyed and they need to convert to US currancy so the bills that were being made for the us were stamped with that..... i had a rare find at a auction it was the last run of hundred dollar bills made in hawiai just before the attact....

Lol FatTony you have gone off lol, you are right about the value as far as I can tell without actually seeing the note, I had 3 of the 5's and sold two some time ago for about 150.00 for the pair. I went to an auction not long ago where a 20.00 Battle Creek note from the early 30's went for 100.00 that is very undervalued as well. The same note would have fetched double easily on feebay. The thing that irked me about the winner is that he folded it up and put it in his wallet said he couldn't wait to show his grandson, great idea but couldn't believe the neglect in care on his part. Made me want to bid again lol. I won what I wanted though so no worries.

Yeah... I don't understand. Only thing I can think is she just joined and wanted to use her 400 credits on something and really didn't care what. Not that she had a chance at winning but I just hate comments like that. Unfortunately someone new to the hobby might read a comment like hers and unknowingly pass up on a great item like this because of an ignorant comment. No worries. I know this note will go to someone who understands the value and history behind this note. these notes were a one time deal and ~directly~ related to one of our countries darkest hours. If you think about why these notes were printed it really puts in to perspective what possibilities were going through our government officials minds. Not a pretty thought. Truly is an historic note and not just a run of the mill silver certificate worth 2 bucks :)

Why 16,666 credits or get it now you may be wondering :)

That's the number it has to be for me to get 15,000 credits after paying the Listia "get it now" listing fees.
if the bids get to 7500 I think, the get it now offer is ended automatically. So if you think you may want to do get it now and have the credits, don't wait until the last minute.
This really is a great note. Other than the small burns(I Know..., what the #&^%$#!)
the note is still a little crisp and not really too soiled. Pretty decent looking note other than that.

Wish I could afford to make this a Premium auction but 550 credits seems like a bit of a waste. So please just share this with anyone who you think may like it and share it on your Facebook wall if you can.

You are mistaken my friend. Look up the Fr # in your book and don't forget the extra "a" This is a Hawaii overprint note. Look it up on ebay and tell me what you think then. OR save your credits for someone who knows what it is and will apreciate it.
Fr# 2300Aa $40.00 in Fine condition. And please don't mistake my frank answer for sarcasm or rudeness. I say this in all seriousness, there are a lot of folks that would love to have one of these in their collection that don't have that kind of money to dish out. :) Have a nice day and please don't raise your bid if you don't like it.

hahaha. I literally just listed it and was going to send you a message and here you are. :) Great not my friend, who ever wins this is going to be extremely pleased. The pictures just don't do it justice. If you look at the picture of the reverse you can see how bright the note still is. It's actually nicer than the one I have in my collection, but I personally just can't get passed the burns. So here it is. It was my first overprint note and I paid a few bucks for it and now I hope it goes to someone as their first.
Good luck my friend.
I had to list something good after reading the 14-D was going to feebay :( I was looking forward to watching that auction.
