The listing, GORGEOUS POLISHED AMMONITE FOSSIL has ended.

Gorgeous AMMONITE FOSSIL, 1' X 1 1/2"
Auction is for ONE (1) Intact and polished to a high gloss, Ammonite Fossil! These are oftentimes utilized to make unique pendants for jewelry. One method is to cap the cut end with a Sterling Silver cap and add a bail to form the pendant. Alternatively, and I think, by far the more beautiful and striking presentation, is to have the FOSSIL cut LENGTHWISE so that yo end up with two (2) mirror image Ammonite Fossils with the Interiors exposed!
Rarer than diamond, Ammonite is the fossilized remains of a squid-like creature that used jet propulsion to travel over 65 million years ago!
From the Paleozoic era to the end of the Cretaceous era, Ammonites jetted around the world’s oceans preying on smaller forms of marine life. For nearly 330 million years, they were abundant in all of the oceans until they suddenly became extinct, around the same time as the demise of the dinosaurs.
Ammonites were cephalopods (predatory marine mollusks) similar to the modern Squid, Octopus and chambered Nautilus. Ammonites were able to swim, thanks to the unique construction of their shell, which was divided into a series of air chambers. The air in the chambers provided buoyancy for the animal to float; like modern cephalopods, they probably moved through the water using jet propulsion.

Yes, now, this one I have NEVER seen listed on Listia...! I love it! It can be used just as it is, or, you can affix a sterling silver plate and bale to the cut end for a beautiful pendant, OR, and most striking, you can cut, or have it cut, in half, and expose two mirror images of the interior, which is fantastic! So much potential!! Good luck!

Thanks! I found this at the local rockshop, and fell in love with it! They had one that a jeweler had capped with sterling silver and made into a pendant, and it was gorgeous! Good luck if you choose to bid!
Blessed be,
Victor

Yeah, know what ya' mean...so many great ways to make these work in jewelry! As I told the guy below, The 1st piece I saw was a simple sterling cap on a full ammonite, but some of the finest I've seen have utilized an ammonite split into mirror images (which incidentally gives you twice as many ammonites, too!). I'm really hoping that the bids go up a good deal from where they are now, lol, not that I don't thank you for YOUR bid! Who knows, lot's of struff happens at the last moment on Listia! If it does go out of your range, stay tuned, 'cause I have a couple more! Be well, be happy, may you find peace and may harmony find you!
Blessed be,
Victor

You, and Me, and a bunch of other folks! So striking, just as it is, and add sterling accents to really make it pop, then, if you split it, you end up with even better looking fossils, but TWO of them...Plus silver...Good luck if you bid!
Blessed be,
Victor

It seriously is! And that's if you use it all in one piece! If you split it, you get mirror images that are even more striking...add a bit of sterling silver and it becomes high-end Jewelry!
