Description

The listing, Beautiful Handmade Ring From At least the Early 1800s has ended.

This is a really old and really beautiful ring. It's a size 8. I know that it's at least 200 years old. It has a makers mark but it's really hard to make out, I think it's MZ. I wouldn't be surprised if the stones were diamond, they are too nice and too sparkly to be glass or even quartz but they may be just really nice quartz. I have not gone to a jeweler with this, I did have it set to be auctioned at an antique house about 10 years ago and decided not to part with it. I've gone back and forth about what to do and I decided to list it. It's got beautiful craftsmanship and really lovely details carved into it. For being as old as it is it's in really great condition. Please look at all photos. If it doesn't go this time I don't think I'll be relishing it here. I'll answer any questions to the best of my ability. Happy bidding! IMPORTANT PLEASE READ:: IVE DECIDED TO LIST THIS AS AN AS IS NO REFUNDS, I DON'T WANT SOMEONE WINNING THEN HAVING THE STONES REPLACED AND TRY TH RETURN IT OR ANYTHING SCAM LIKE. SO IF THIS AUCTION CLOSES WITH A WINNER NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED.

Does it have holes behind the stones if so ten to one they are diamonds. Do you know what kind of metal it is ? It is nice and if I have that much credits I would bid. But all I can say is good luck to you on your auction,

Thank you, yes it does have tiny breathing holes which is another reason I thought they were most likely real. I own a lot of sterling and can tell sterling fairly easy when I see it and I believe it's sterling. But the only reason I didn't say it was for sure it's because 1. I haven't tested it and 2. The tiny bit of wear on the one side as shown in pictures. But then I thought it is really old and it may be just wear markings. There is also another metal which I think is bronze.

How do you know how old the ring is?

It has been in my family for over 200 years among others I'd never part with, that I know for sure but I also had a antique jewelry specialist tell me it was atleast that old and he thought much older.

The intricate detail is beautiful. A question, the wear marks you mentioned... in the photo, is that the darker area? If so, does that damaged spot look like it is plating that has worn off?

Yes it is the darker spots but I don't think it looks like plating because when I've seen that on pieces before the metsl underneath looks different its either had a like a multicolored look to it or maybe like steel. This looks like solid silver with a scuff on it. I'm not sure if it's because it was hand forged, it could have always been that way. I'm really not sure. But it definitely doesn't look like plating wearing off. The ring has breather holes where the stones are on top that you can tell were purposely put there and I would bet my life that there small diamonds and I can't imagine add long ago as this was made the crafter would have plated a ring like this.

I added the closest pic I could get it's hard to see the holes because they are small but you can see they are there.
