Description

The listing, A Unique Vintage Coin Watch Head!! MUST SEE!! has ended.

This is a Watch Head that is Vintage with a coin inside. I'm not sure what the coin is or if it is even real. I found this in a box of things I had from my great grandfather's place.

This can be taken apart and used for crafts, steampunk pieces or even restored. See if it works, I'm not sure, I haven't taken it apart to see if it will work with a new battery!!

But this is a perfect little unique piece!!

looks to be a LEJOUR Morgan SILVER DOLLAR watch. It is a wind watch. But could be a vulcan repleca if bought in the 60's or 70's Your guess is as good as mine on this one.

My great grandfather wasn't traveling around the 60s & 70s I don't think. I think he was at home - I know a lot of this stuff was when he was army and traveling with them and that was years ago. But thank you for that information!! Whether or not it is real or a replica someome is going to get a very unique piece!

great auction. if your going to be selling or listing these type of items you should invest a $1 or so at the dollar store and pick up a magnifying gl ass. They really help with jewelry marks, and small marks. a jewelers loop isn't but a few dollars and the only thing is you have to move it back and forth to "adjust" it and focus.
You can also use it to look at old paintings. if there are dots, its a print, if not, you will see the brush strokes. very handy. good luck with your auctions.Oh and does this have a battery as you stated earlier or is it wind up and does it need a key to wind or is it done more easily? thank you

I never stated it has a battery - I said it could be battery or wind up...I do not know much about watches as I normally deal in Vintage & Antique Kitchen and Furniture stuff. I do have a magnifying glass just not on me here, it's still boxed up in storage. I haven't been able to go through all my stuff since moving. The days lately have been a pain. My great grandfather owned this and most likely got it on one of his many travels. He died when I was younger so I don't know exactly where all he traveled to. I do know he went to Japan a couple of times because he brought back his wife these gorgeous jewelry boxes - which are now mine and rest on my 1935 Vanity Table (which was my great grandmothers)! I have no idea if it's just a normal wind up or requires a key. I don't see anything referring to it being used with a key...I don't really deal in old jewelry or paintings much. Most of the stuff I ended up keeping, some I sold at some Antique stores and thought this would be cool to list here, very unique as I've never seen one before and I frequent Antique shops quite often! Other than that, don't really know much about this piece. Like stated in the auction, it could be real, it could not be, who knows. I blew up the pictures on my phone and computer trying to make out dates or anything but because the way the glass sits I couldn't see much of anything. Thanks!

coin looks like my liberty head dollar those which were made between 1865 to about 1950 not a 100%sure because the coin blurs after a certain point but i can see an inscription on the left side behind the head. my dates are rough dates not exact but close. your grandfather served in what years roughly? i might be able to help with details.

I'm really not sure what years my great grandfather served, he died when I was really young. I can try and find out if I can get a hold of my mother. After my grandmother (she lived in the same house taking care of her parents) passed away a few years ago we went through the house and I took boxes upon boxes of things I wanted before it was sold in an estate sale. I'm just now getting around to some of these boxes of things!

Yes I can ship to Canada (if you pay, I do accept paypal) - it would probably be around $5 as I'll have it gift boxed in a bubble wrap envelope!

Not that I can read if there is. I don't see anything on the back but because it is so old, it could have rubbed off honestly. And I can't read anything through the glass, but I don't have anything to "magnify" either

Thanks :) Is there a Date on the coin that you can see?
Jan 22nd, 2014 at 10:33:23 AM PST by
Original
No I can't, because the way the top is placed and because it's a more vintage item, I cannot see inside the glass to well. I don't even honestly know if it is a real coin or not. This was my great grandfather's and it is very old. I am just unsure of where he got it from and how old it is!

That's as close as I can get it. The coin in inside the watch head and the glass part has a glare. If you click VIEW LARGER underneath the pictures you can see a larger picture. But that's as close as my phone will allow me to go without going blurry.
