Description

The listing, Solid Bronze Collector Coins/Medallions - PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION has ended.

This set is from Franklin MInt, and the set is 200 coins/Medallions. (Presently, there are 197....3 seem to have grown legs and disappeared. The ones that are missing are 1786, 1798, and 1815) They cover a period of 200 years of U.S. History. One coin per year, from 1776 to 1975. Each coin commemorates the major event of that particular year.

Now....PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING!!!!!
These were offered to the special members of the Frankling Mint Collectors Society...which I was a member. This is how they were offered....2 coins per month, for $19.95 + shipping and the beloved handling, for a total of $25.50 per month. They would NOT send more than the 2 per month, so it took EIGHT years and 4 months for me to get them all. They stopped making them with the last issue of 1974-1975. That was it! I also bought the solid wood case, as well as the storage cards. There are 10 cards, and each holds 20 years. All together...and this makes me cry now....I invested over $2500 in the whole thing. Crazy? Yes! BUT, being the diehard collector that I am (was), and the fact I am a true lover of American history...well....I just HAD to have them, and I've REALLY enjoyed having them around.
Here we go.....the coin pictured is a sample. They are thick, heavy, solid bronze, 1 3/4" in diameter. EXTREMELY well made! I will start this auction with the first two...1776 and 1777...and go from there, listing on a regular basis. It certainly won't take EIGHT YEARS! The wood box and the cards are NOT included. This whole thing weighs over 32 pounds. So....what you will get is the TWO coins named in the auction. Each coin is in a clear plastic coin holder.

I'm running out of space, so I'll add more info in the comments section.

I have really struggled over how best to list these. I hope this works out ok. You may ask....why is old Doodlebug getting rid of these? Quite simple! As I approach the "bucket kicking" portion of my life, I want to try to let someone have these that can appreciate them. As I've said here before, my "caring" relatives will sell these suckers at a yard sale for $5. I'm NOT going to let that happen!

In case you're interested, I checked these out on ebay. At the time, I found a single coin here and there....not many at all. I also saw one guy who was selling 10 years of them, and he wanted $1200. Yeah, right! I never checked back on that. Didn't really care. I just think it would be a nightmare selling them on ebay, and the fees would be killer. Sooooooo, here they are for my Listia mates! IF anyone is interested in them. We'll certainly see, won't we!

Oh....I forgot....the 1776 coin commemorates the "Signing of the Declaration of Independence" (makes sense, huh), and the 1777 coin commemorates "The Stars and Stripes Are Born". ALSO.....PLEASE...don't anyone bid until I get the photos of the actual coins on here. Thanks!

Ok - The final photos are up. One other thing I'll note. The great majority of the coind have never been handled. Some have. The kids and grandkids have messed with a few, but no damage was done. Some have some tarnish from age. That can easily be polished off.

Thanks! I'm going to make an attempt to get them all listed within 4-6 weeks.....IF, and I say, IF, my feebleness can get it done! That's a bit better than 8 years, wouldn't you agree? Ha!
