Description
The listing, Old vintage round container that is sterling silver. has ended.
This item is really old and dates back in the early 1900s. I don't know what it was used for but I don't have any use for it. And would like for someone to be able to have use for it.
Questions & Comments
It looks like a compact for powder but doubt it if it's only about two inches across. It's nice though.
I believe that might have been a small compact for rouge. They didn't have blush in the old days. They used tiny compacts like yours with mirror and puff. The rouge was sometimes like cake powder and sometimes it was more creamy.
I personally own several of these and the first ones I collected were actually tin, but this one is quite decorated and would most likely have belonged to a lady of more means.
*It is not a powder box. Older women and tender women of the day kept lavender inside for when they were feeling faint. Sometimes the heat and the ladies clothing made them feel this way or of course, stress and the need for attention.
Fanned you have to say One lucky winner is going to love this for this is a really nice item , but my Hubby says I don't need more old stuff my lost for Id so bid on this all I can say is Good luck to all and to the winner your getting a great item
After looking at the pictures I might amend my above statement. I didn't know it was a two sided compact. The moon shape was where there was a mirror went and the little round slot under that was where a tiny puff went. There could have been a mirror on the other side, too. I collect compacts and I used to have one kind of like this. I'm no expert, I just like compacts and thought I could help.
No problem I am glad for all the help. that's what we are here for to help each other out and to help with the history on things that we are trying to figure out. You are a great person and thank you again.
Yes, it is a vintage compact for the ladies face powder. I notice that it looks to stones around the top, are any of the stones missing? Thank you, Already a fan, but watching this auction. :)
FYI~i believe it's a vintage ladies compact and there used to be a small mirror in the little circle with the 2 prongs, it would have had powder and a pouff inside also. Art deco design? i searched eBay and there are several similar, but no round ones with stones & this type decoration.
it would be very helpful to place a quarter or penny next to it when taking pictures. that would help us to have a frame of reference since you don't know if it's 1.5 or 2 inches. thanks
