FREE: Unusual Bone Jar

The listing, Unusual Bone Jar has ended.

This is a small jar, carved out of an ox bone. It is from China and has strange scrimshaw on it. Different plants and what looks like little mushroom people talking to each other. It has a hinged ox bone lid also. It is also inscribed and secured with a round embellished brass colored hinge, rims and closure. It was sold to me as a Chinese antique, however, I have also heard that 'Antiques' from China are not necessarily authentic or even old. Regardless it is charming. I wonder if it held some Asian herbal medicine (?).
Dimensions: It looks to be about 21/4 inches tall and about 2 inches wide. (Sorry, I misplaced my ruler. The bone is yellowed, as with age.
