Books are colorful and make for fun reading!

The 7 books cover the basic vowels (one book for each short and long vowel), as well as having a book each for "sh" and "ch". The list of words with the given sound is printed on the back of the book, making it easy to work through sounding out the words first, so when reading the story it's quicker and flows more easily. They do assume that children know the consonant sounds before beginning these books.

The Hello Kitty Phonics books don't restrict themselves to using only the focus sound for each book, so they're able to provide a richer story than more restrictive phonics sets. At the same time, they stick to common site words and only a few extra supplemental words per story; both the phonics and site words and used with high repetition in each book. The balance is perfect - providing the early reader with easy success in reading, yet still having fun stories. The story lines are perfect for the preschool to first grade age group - very easy to identify with as Hello Kitty and her friends go to school, help plant flowers, play dress up, help rake leaves, etc.

The phonics words that are the focus of the book are printed in bold, while the others are in regular font.
