Description

The listing, 6 90% Silver Mercury Head Dimes and Roosevelt Dimes all with Mint Marks! has ended.

For auction:

Three 90% Silver (3) Mercury Head Dimes all with mint marks, and three 90% Silver (3) Roosevelt Dimes all with mint marks. Be sure to notice the detail in the "sticks" on the Mercury reverse sides and the "torch and flame" on the Roosevelt reverse sides which helps to tell each coin's condition.

See the 6-coin 90% silver lot in picture 1 of the front of the coins.

Pictures 2 and 3 show the 1940-D. Notice that only about a third of the sticks in picture 3 show detail, meaning that this dime is not quite VG; it would be G-6, a higher level of good.

Pictures 4, 5, and 6 show the 1941-S. It has all the sticks showing AND the diagonal bands for a grade of VF; however, picture 6 shows how it is bent which decreases it value.

Pictures 7 and 8 show the 1943-S in VF.

Pictures 9 and 10 show the 1952-D Roosevelt in VG condition at most, because on the reverse, there is little detail in the torch and flames.

Pictures 11 and 12 show the 1953-D Roosevelt in VG condition at most, for the same reason as the 1952-D.

Pictures 13 and 14 show the 1964-D Roosevelt in VF since there is much more detail on the back in the torch and flames.

All coins will be shipped with tracking, and each dime will be in a 2x2 holder w/mylar protection.

Thank you for looking at this auction, and please consider looking at the other ones I have as well! Thank you!

Have these been cleaned in any way and if not are they original matte finish only reason I ask is I have been in coins a very long time and if they are not truly in matted mint then they would have some silver shine to them. Thanks f&w!

hi tperidore, i am assuming by "original matte finish" you are referring to the original gloss on the dimes that is NOT a result of cleaning. Starting with the three Mercury dimes, it is my opinion (without being able to test for any kind of cleaning) that the condition of each of them is commensurate with their overall wear. All 3 Mercuries have some natural tarnish, but the 1940-D does have the least amount of tarnishing while having the most amount of wear, but in using the loupe to check them all, I cannot say that the 1940-D looks cleaned because there IS tarnishing that accompanies wear, just not to the extent of the other two.

Regarding the Roosevelt dimes, the two from the 1950's definitely have a tarnish commensurate with their wear, while the 1964 does retain more detail on both obverse and reverse (Roosevelt's hair, the torch, and to a lesser extent the fire), but further examination using a loupe reveals no indicator of having been cleaned in my opinion. I think there is congruency between the dates and storage history of the coins, and the 1964-D, while having been circulated, does retain its original matte finish, and this is further confirmed by comparing it to a couple of uncirculated dimes from the silver era. I hope this helps. Thanks for a very good question!
