This intergeneric hybrid between Gasteria and Aloe is an inspired Kelly Griffin cross. Gasteraloe ‘Midnight’ is a small, compact plant with a tight rosette of stout, linear leaves that take on varying hues of color. The younger leaves in the center of the plant are of a deep green coloration, but as they elongate they start to take on a dark reddish-brown affect that can grade into ever deeper hues of purple, even approaching a degree of violet-purple that one almost could describe as “black”.
This is a wonderful plant that is quite happy in a full-sun situation and is very easy to grow. This is a great choice for the beginning hybrid Aloe aficionado, or it could be presented as a gift to that special friend with limited space for plants, where it will fit nicely into an apartment or condominium scenario. It naturally suggests itself as a potted specimen for a patio situation or ensconced in a designer pot sighted on a pillar or along the top of a wall.
