Harrington was drafted 3rd overall by the Detroit Lions in 2002 after being a top candidate for the Heisman at Oregon. Lacking talent at key positions, Harrington struggled to get the Lions close to respectability, but still managed to throw for 16,000 yards. Benched for Jeff Garcia (who also failed to make the Lions a winner because of the lack of talent on the team), Joey finished his career with seasons with the Atlanta Falcons (where he ascended to starter after the suspension of Michael Vick), Miami Dolphins (where he was the starting QB in 5 of 6 total Dolphins wins, including a nationally televised Thanksgiving drubbing of the Lions, and a 31-13 beating of previously unbeaten Chicago), and as a backup in New Orleans.
