I think it's a great auction! All the people who are whining about it are probably the same people I blocked from my auctions.I think it's a great auction and you did a good job with it. Watching and now your fan.

TYVM I fanned you back & watching one of your listings : )

I hope it's not the case with this coin I listed, but sometimes members will diss an auction just to scare other members away from it so they have a better chance of winning it : ( why else would they sit there & waste their time? I have seen this several times on Listia, the biggest whiner wins the bid...go figure

Now I am all for members giving me advice and helping out, it makes for a better community here on Listia!! I am honest to a fault and would never mislead anybody

Gold clad is the same thing as gold plated. There is a thin layer of gold over some type of base metal which could be brass or zinc or some mixture. I personally don't understand how a reproduction can be referred to as Authentic. On the original solid gold government minted coin can be Authentic and anything else is a copy or knockoff and not struck from the original dies. If the Government used the original dies and same metallic content the coin would be called a restrike.

I see thank you for explaining that to me

Authentic I do understand... and in this case it is authentic in that it is "A proof privately minted commemorative tribute to the 1933 $20.00 Saint Gaudens' coin"

This coin is privately minted and a tribute to the original $20.00 Gold Piece, it is a tribute not a copy

"The original Saint Gaudens Gold Piece was issued by the US mint and authorized by the act of March 3, 1849 and was minted in Philadelphia, Denver, and San Fransisco from 1907-1933" This is an authentic tribute to that coin and is not a copy of it

Thank you I appreciate your feedback and now know what Clad is : )

That's EXACTLY how I am, if I want something then I want it for my own reasons and it will suit me just fine for that purpose : ) I have never been a follower, for the most part I march to the beat of my own drum, I mean this in the best possible way though : )

The word "Tribute" in the coin world MEANS that it's a COPY made over and over again in a certian number by a private company. This is NOT an original Saint Gauden's coin meaning that it's NOT worth the $20.00!
Aug 16th, 2013 at 8:40:02 PM PDT by
Original
Exactly.......like I said this was Privately Minted, meaning it was made by a Private Company......I know it is not an original coin from 1907-1933 and if it was it would be worth in the upwards of the thousands

You say "NOT worth the $20.00" Hence in my listing it states "The proof is non-monetized and is a limited edition"

Leave this poor listian alone!!! I believe I have this exact coin ..The back of my card says "The American Historic Society" and inside, on the left side of the card at the bottom, is a serial number. My grandfather bought one for each child one Christmas and I believe they were advertising them in magazines etc. IT IS A TRIBUTE PROOF as she describes.....My card does not say what it is clad over either but you could probably google that......Good Luck...this is a beautiful coin for one who cannot afford the real one that is about $1500.00......and beautiful to look at and dream of owning the real gold one. Mine is very large...about the size of a 1/2 dollar or larger...

To the poster who said this kind of listing, if real, would be too rich for Listia.
He's wrong.
Listia, itself, was once offering a car, brand new :)
Fact.

I agree, I offer some pretty real jewelry on here, not for as much as a car would go for....LOL but yeah how could anything be too much rich for Listia? That doesn't even make sense to me because if we have it we list it no matter what the value and I will tell you why......

We offer free shipping when we can, but that is not always feasible and we do wholeheartedly apologize for this, but we do have overhead to consider

Our points and shipping charges are set to cover ONLY our bare minimum overhead

We are not here to make a profit, but rather to serve the good of those in need.....

What we do and why we labor to do it…

Our Fathers Sons is a Non-Profit Organization registered with the United States Government and founded upon Christian principles through the Universal Life Church. Best of luck to ALL bidders!

Hi, Great auction. I have a couple of these coins. They are copper layered with 24k gold. I also read above that you could buy an original coin for $1600 dollars. There is only one of these coins left and it sold at auction in 2002 for 7.59 million dollars. President Franklin D. Roosevelt had these coins confiscated and melted down. Hope this helps everyone.

TYVM, that information is very helpful, I did not realize that President Franklin D. Roosevelt had these coins confiscated and melted down that is a very interesting fact in history thank you again : )

i just want to point out that if it was a real it would not be on lista and there are lots of coins the are commemorative and or tribute coins when they say authentic it means it is the exact same design and detail as the original the only reason it is this is cause no company is going to make a con that cost 1400 an oz to make nor does the us mint have enough gold to even make these coins anymore my point is it is as authentic as your going to get outside spending about 1600 or so to buy the original so this is an authentic remake from a professional company not a knock off at all .great coin to have
