The listing, I have no idea what this is - stake with string wrapped around it has ended.

Okay fellow Listians, my ignorance may be your gain.

I found this item in my shed and, besides being interesting, I have absolutely no clue what it is or what it is supposed to do.

It measures 9" long and has a fairly detailed knotted string pattern around it. If anyone knows what it's purpose is, I would really appreciate your telling me!
