When I was the baker for Green Street Cafe in Northampton, MA (a fine restaurant with a French/locally-inspired menu), this was a staple for our continental breakfast offerings.Apparently, it was a recipe that the owner's mother handed down to him.
It is rich, freezes well, keeps for 2-3 days (a bit longer if kept in the refrigerator), and is very nice chilled, warmed, or at room temperature.
