An All-Star in his first 2 full seasons, Blalock managed 61 home runs and 200 RBI over those 2 years with a combined WAR of 11.0. After 2 more 90 RBI seasons, he was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome and had to have surgery to have ribs removed. He returned late in the 2007 season, and hit a grand slam in his first game back and batted .313 during September as a DH. The strain of playing the field and hitting combined post-surgery took its toll in 2008, and Blalock looked to fade, but instead came back to a 25 HR season in 2009, after which the team unceremoniously released him. He attempted to come back with the Rays in 2010, where he faded into legend quickly.
