Movie Description:

When American Betty Mahmoody, her Iranian husband and their young daughter Mahtob fly to Iran, they just wanted to visit his family for two weeks and then fly back to America. But the once liberal, happy and caring family father begins to change in his home country and decides that he and his family will stay in Iran. Betty, who didn't even want to go to Iran for vacation in the first place is totally shocked and tries to convince her husband in returning. The now cruel and angry man tells her that she can leave the country but their daughter Mahtob, who doesn't want to stay in Iran either, has to stay with him and he has the law and his big family behind him. Betty does not in any case want to leave Mahtob behind and tries - under the risk of her own life - to find a way to escape her violent husband and the unbearable conditions in the warwaging, controlling country. The true story of Betty Mahmoody's life and dangerous escape.
