Questions & Comments
I prefer to use unaddressed covers, but if it's an oldie or a philatelic sort loves the postally used, then it can be very fine. I just love these 3 ROPEXs' as they are pristine! PS: The 1776 flag represents our 13 colonies. PSS: "RO"PEX is short for Rochester, NY. This would be sooo perfect framed for a history buff in or from Rochester, NY!!!
Speaking of lovely & historic: the three 1976 Bicententials show covers cancelled in Rochester, NY should increase in value as the years move on. Ben Franklin coined "Join or Die" in a political cartoon on May 9, 1754. AND, drum roll, his stamp is on the cover! I'm not a "stamp collector" per se; will someone please tell me what the other stamp on the cover is? Great art, quote & symbolism in all 3 colors!
The red, blue & green ROPEX-76s' would be so beautiful matted & framed together! I find & frame 1st day covers of a subject that relates to someone & give as a gift. Everyone has always loved them; it's guaranteed that they are always surprised & don't have one of these!:)
I wanted to know what the stamp is beside Ben Franklin on the 1st 4 cover envelopes on your listing picture. I was specifically referring to the stamp on the 3 "PEX" covers I described. Thanks!
No wish to add insult to injury but, per history.com "This Day in History" Nov 14, 1776: ""On this day in 1776, the St. James Chronicle of London carries an item announcing "The very identical Dr. Franklyn [Benjamin Franklin], whom Lord Chatham [former leading parliamentarian and colonial supporter William Pitt] so much caressed, and used to say he was proud in calling his friend, is now at the head of the rebellion in North America."" This was a truly historic day! We may think that Franklin was always an ardent Patriot of the Rebellion; that's just not so. But his support of our Uprising was of immeasurable value! I'm quite sure that the Club did not pick this cancellation day randomly... PS: Lest that anyone think that I'm a US history scholar, please let me disabuse you! It's only because of my history teaching husband that I have a remote clue! Plus Ben is the person he would most like to meet if he could, so well discussed here!
Great auction from a trusted seller..I have won so many items from the seller, I was very Happy and looking to do business with her again and again.. Bids high with these Out of the World items..Good luck everyone..
I framed the green '76 & it sits on my American History teaching husband's desk. But I don't have all 3 colors. Hmm, may have to bid on this myself. Not the greatest bidding strategy to advertise this, I'm sure! (But maybe the seller will appreciate it!)
The ones that have "...PEX" in the name are from stamp shows sponsored by stamp clubs! The cover art is usually made by a member of the hosting club. Chosen stamps usually have some relationship to the theme, area, etc... A .member takes the covers to the PO that creates the special club cancellation. The club sells these at the show & later until they sell out. I don't know if collecting stamp show covers is a specialty or not, but it seems as if it should be! I've seen some very lovely & unique covers made for shows. Probably the seasoned collectors commenting here know this; it's amazing that I do, so it's for others that don't!
